What do I need to know about storage?
1. Make sure that you have insurance coverage on the contents
of the storage unit. Also, keep an inventory of the items stored in
the unit in the event that you would have to make an insurance claim.
2. Items that will tend to mildew (boxes of clothing or books)
should be kept up off the concrete floor by placing them on top of
other items or placing them on pallets.
3. Furniture, mattresses and box springs should be covered
to protect them from dust and damage.
4. Place the items that you are least likely to need, into
the storage unit first (in the back of the unit) and place the items
that you are most likely to need in last so you will have easy access
to them.
5. Stack boxes so that the heaviest boxes are on the bottom
with the lightest boxes on the top to prevent crushing.
6. Label your boxes so that it will be easier to identify items
later when you are unloading them at a new residence.
7. If you are storing a vehicle in the storage unit you must
disconnect the battery and protect the concrete floor from oil or
grease that may drip from the vehicle.
8. You are not permitted to store any food, gasoline, explosives,
paint, flammable chemicals, corrosive or hazardous materials, or controlled
substances in the storage unit.
9. You are not permitted to attach anything to any part of
the structure for hanging or lifting heavy objects.
